About The Alapacs of Cedar Knoll

Our dream of raising and breeding alpacas came to fruition when we acquired a bred female, Savanna, and three young females. Savanna had her first baby, a future champion female named Jorja, in July of 2005. Her second baby, Macon (AKA Big Mac) was born in November 2006. Jorja and Big Mac are full siblings, both sired by Dom Lucillo.

To our growing family we added another magnificent female, a Bay black, pure Bolivian female bred to the champion Hercules.  We continue to maintain an ongoing attitude of quality through excellent breed lines and a healthy atmosphere for development as our alpaca family grows.

Alpacas are generally friendly animals, preferring to be around people and other animals while maintaining their own space.  They are transported easily in a minivan or trailer and ride well.  Generally, alpacas can be raised on small acreages.  Care for alpacas is limited to feeding and area cleaning, with an annual shearing, and, in one year, you can feed 50 alpacas for the cost of feeding a single horse.  The average annual feed cost per alpaca is approximately $250.00.

We’ve started small and are making our dreams come true.  We’re always happy to talk about our experiences, the tax advantages of owning alpacas, and about how much we’ve learned through our work.
